Flamboyant examples of the Spanish Baroque style can be seen around the city, with the most impressive being the front of the cathedral. If you do want to visit the coast and experience something different from the holiday beaches then a drive down to the restored Roman amphitheatre at Cartagena will provide a glimpse into the distant past along with its preserved city walls and medieval castle. And talking of castles then the imposing Castillo de Lorca is not to be missed.
Why not use Murcia as a base to explore south eastern Spain. Not only is it a fascinating place in its own right, but the countryside is but an easy car hire away.
