Visiting Luxembourg

Much of the 469,000 population is dispersed in rural areas, with the highest concentration found in Luxembourg City, the capital. Begin your trip in the lively town of Echternach, which makes a great base for exploring the valleys and highlands of the northern Ardennes, and ancient forests of Mullerthal.

The City of Luxembourg is recognised as a UNESCO historic site due to the fortifications surrounding the steep valley, and underground defences. While in the city, visit the Grand Ducal Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Place Guillaume II.

The city has a number of youth hostels offering thrifty Luxembourg accommodation for the budget-conscious traveller. After visiting Luxembourg City, make the short trip north to Vianden, then explore the medieval castles and rolling farmlands as you travel southeast to the Moselle Valley.

Be sure to leave enough travel-free time to enjoy the locally brewed beers and wines, and unique blend of French and German cuisine.

Take Time To Explore

Luxembourg may only be a little land, but has much to offer. You can cover ground quickly with a hire car, but instead of rushing from location to location, take time to meander across the countryside, and disappear down country lanes. Beyond the popular tourist attractions, Luxembourg has many hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered.
